Fonteverde Spa

In San Casciano dei Bagni in the Sienese hills, Fonteverde was built in 1607 on a portico commissioned by Grand Duke Ferdinando I de' Medici above a thermal spring that the Etruscans and Romans had already been using for centuries. The water here — rich in calcium, fluoride, magnesium, and sulphur, emerging at 42°C — flows untreated directly into the pools.

Fonteverde is a Renaissance palace grown into one of Italy's finest thermal retreats, framed by the UNESCO-listed Val d'Orcia and the rolling hills between Florence and Rome. The thermal water from Monte Amiata has been documented as healing since Etruscan times; today it fills seven pools including panoramic outdoor cascades facing the valley, and feeds the Bioaquam multi-sensory hydrotherapy circuit with whirlpools, waterfalls, and underwater jets. The Equilibrium wellness method, developed in-house, balances diet, body, and soul across programmes that pair thermal treatments with manual therapies, longevity protocols, and the mineral-rich thermal muds. The Longevity Suite applies cold-chamber contrast therapy as a systemic anti-age intervention. Seventy-eight rooms and suites occupy the historic building, all with views of the surrounding countryside. Cuisine at Restaurant Ferdinando I celebrates the seasonal produce of the Val d'Orcia region with the restraint and flavour that the setting demands. Helicopter transfers from Rome or Florence land at the on-site helipad.
